Owensville father arrested for pointing a gun at one of his children

An Indiana State Police investigation led to the arrest of an Owensville father for allegedly hitting one of his children and pointing a loaded firearm at him.

During the investigation, Indiana State Police investigators determined that 24-year-old Austin McGill was babysitting his three children at his home on Sunday morning, September 8. During one incident, McGill allegedly struck his eight-year-old stepdaughter and then pointed a loaded gun at her. The children's mother was not home during the alleged incident.

After reviewing information received by investigators, the Gibson County Prosecutor's Office charged McGill and issued an arrest warrant. At approximately 12:30 this afternoon, Indiana State Police arrested McGill after he turned himself in at the Gibson County Jail. McGill is currently being held on bail.

Austin McGill, 24, of Owensville, IN

Pointing a firearm at another person, Level 6 felony

Neglect of a dependent person, severity level 6

Domestic violence, severity level 6

All defendants in criminal proceedings are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
