Mega Millions ticket with $1 million prize sold in Chicago – NBC Chicago

As the Mega Millions jackpot rises to $800 million this week, a Chicago player is celebrating after winning $1 million on his ticket.

According to the Illinois Lottery, the winning ticket in Friday's drawing was purchased at a Gas Express location in the Bridgeport neighborhood.

The ticket had the same five numbers from the Mega Millions drawing, 6-23-42-59-63, and won a whopping $1 million. However, the ticket did not win the jackpot because it did not match the Mega Ball number.

The ticket was one of six sold in the U.S. that won the $1 million prize. A ticket sold in Ohio also included a Megaplier that doubled the prize to $2 million.

According to the gas station owner, the store also sold a Lucky Day Lotto ticket that won $400,000 earlier this year. The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the Mega Millions ticket.

“My staff and I hope the winner is someone we know, a regular customer,” the owner said. “Regardless of the outcome, I will use part of the bonus to celebrate with my staff and use the rest to upgrade my gas station.”

According to the Illinois Lottery, this is the seventh prize of over a million dollars won by a Mega Millions player in the state this year.

The winner has not yet come forward to claim his prize, but has one year to do so.

To win the Mega Millions jackpot, a player must match all five numbers and the Mega Ball. There are smaller prizes available for matching some of the numbers in the game.

The next drawing will be on Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. Central Time. Drawings can be found on the lottery's YouTube page.
