Davis Cup: Jack Draper “working hard to get fit after the US Open”

Jack Draper will join Great Britain's Davis Cup squad on Tuesday and is “working hard to get fit” after suffering what he described as an ailment at the US Open.

The 22-year-old Draper lost to Jannik Sinner in the physically demanding semifinal of the US Open in New York on Friday.

“After a short break following the US Open, Jack will join the team in Manchester on Tuesday ahead of the first match on Wednesday,” a Draper spokesman said.

“Jack and his team are working hard to get fit and Leon [Smith] will take all this into account when selecting his team.”

The British team will face Finland on Wednesday before facing Argentina on Friday and 2022 champions Canada in Group D on Sunday 15 September.

Henry Patten, who won the men's doubles title at Wimbledon with Finn Harri Heliovaara, replaced Joe Salisbury in the five-man team.

Captain Smith also named Billy Harris, veteran Dan Evans and experienced doubles player Neal Skupski to his squad.

Harris replaced former British number one Cameron Norrie, who had to withdraw from the US Open due to injury.

The Davis Cup final, in which eight countries participate, will be held in November in the Spanish city of Malaga.
