Taylor Swift's letter to the Darkness star before the viral moment with Travis

The Darkness lead singer Justin Hawkins shared a sweet letter Taylor Swift gave him before her viral moment with boyfriend Jason Kelce.

The 49-year-old attended one of the “Cruel Summer” singer's shows in Zurich, Switzerland, in July as part of her hugely successful Eras tour and received VIP treatment, including a personal handwritten note from Swift. Over the weekend, the 34-year-old pop star and Kelce, also 34, went viral online for dancing to The Darkness' hit “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” at the US Open.

The letter Swift wrote read: “Justin, what a joy to have you at the show! I am a huge fan of yours and think 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' is one of the greatest songs of all time. I hope you and your family enjoy the show! Thank you for coming!!”

In a video shared on TikTok this week, Hawkins described the moment he became “Father of the Year.”

“So a few weeks ago I was at a stadium in Zurich to see Taylor Swift, and the hospitality they showed us was just extraordinary,” Hawkins said. “There was a guy in a golf cart who took us into the main area of the stadium, which was parked near the trucks, and they took us to a kind of nice VIP area. On one side was Chris Rock, on the other side was Roger Federer, and I was just the father of the year.”

“And to make things even more spectacular, Taylor Swift actually sent me a beautiful letter that was waiting for me in the VIP area. In it, she wrote how much she loved the song 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love.' I was simply father of the year, maybe father of the century, because this was all a big surprise.

“Speaking of big surprises, when I woke up this morning, everyone had sent me a video of 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' being played at the US Open, and Taylor Swift and her partner Travis were dancing to it and really enjoying the music. That was a really heartwarming moment for me and my little girl can't wait to tell her friends at school. So thank you Taylor, thank you Travis, thank you to everyone who loves tennis. That's a really nice way to start the day.”

In a separate post shared on Instagram and Twitter, the frontman posted a picture of Swift and Kelce's outlines with the word “Believe.”

At the time of publication, Hawkins' video had more than 788,000 views and over 1,400 comments, with fans in response praising both the singers and the 2003 song.

“She's not wrong. I Believe in a Thing Called Love is one of the best songs of all time!!!” said @breadfan6112 in a message that garnered more than 4,200 likes.

“Her singing of I believe in a thing called love made me smile so much ❤️,” wrote @bellabossdog44 in a comment that received more than 500 likes.

“Off topic but you always seem like such a decent guy,” @shoutingmanuk added, while @mackkme shared, “I'm adding 'I believe in something called love' to my Spotify playlist now!!!”

On Tuesday, Rolling Stone UK reported that “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” is at number 1 on the US iTunes rock charts.

Newsweek I emailed Hawkins for further comment.

Swift and Kelce were filmed dancing to the song during the men's singles final between Taylor Fritz and Jannik Sinner. The Grammy-winning Kansas City Chiefs tight end sang the song from his private box at Arthur Ashe Stadium, and Swift even played air guitar.

Her performance came a few days after Swift attended the Kansas City Chiefs' season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5. The Chiefs' next game is on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. In the meantime, the “Fortnight” singer is taking a break from the Eras Tour, but will resume her concerts in Canada in November.
