The voice actor of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Peter Renaday, has died at the age of 89 – fans pay tribute to the late star

The voice actor of the NINJA Turtles, Peter Renaday, has died at the age of 89.

In the animated series, he lent his voice to Hamato Yoshi/Master Splinter.

Police found Peter dead in his Burbank, California, home on Sunday after receiving a call for a wellness check, TMZ reported.

He appeared to have died of natural causes, and police said his death was not currently under coroner investigation.

Peter leaves behind his wife Florence “Flo” Daniel, whom he was married to from 1979 until her death in 2011.

Florence worked for 35 years as a secretary in the music department and as an executive secretary to two department heads at Walt Disney Studios.

He voiced this role on TMNT from 1987 until the show's finale in 1996.

The voice actor has had an extremely successful film and television career over the past six decades.

Peter also provided the voice for Abraham Lincoln in the Hall of Presidents and Henry and Max in the Country Bear Jamboree at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Peter's other voice work includes Animaniacs, Transformers, the Batman and Superman animated series, several Disney films and video games.

FANS PAY TRIBUTE

When news of Peter's death broke, fans paid tribute to the voice actor on social media.

“Cheese & Crackers! Not only did we lose James Earl Jones, we lost Peter Renaday. Why are we losing so many legends this year? RIP,” wrote one fan.

“Peter Renaday, our beloved Master Splinter from 1987, has passed away. Let's take this opportunity to celebrate the life of this beloved actor who delighted us for nearly a century!” tweeted another.

“You can't be serious. First James Earl Jones, then Emi Shinohara and now Peter Renaday is gone? This is truly a heartbreaking week right now… RIP Legend,” added a third.

“Bob Newhart, James Earl Jones and now Peter Renaday. Hasn't 2024 taken enough from us already?” wrote one X-user.

“Man, I’m sad,” said another.

Others simply wrote RIP (rest in peace).

ABOUT THE NINJA TURTLES SERIES

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on the comic book characters of the same name by Kevin Eastman and Peter Lair.

Set in New York City, the series follows the Turtles – Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo and Raphael – as they fight Shredder, Krang and numerous other villains.

Splinter, a mutated rat, served as a mentor to the turtles.

He was also her ninjutsu and martial arts teacher and her adoptive father.
