Grieving mother receives official confirmation of her sons' deaths in fire accident

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – On Tuesday, the identities of the two children who were found last month in a fiery traffic accident on Deans Bridge Road.

But her mother already knew.

Barry Fields Jr., 15, of Augusta, was in the front seat and his brother Casey Fields, 13, of Augusta, was in the back seat, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said Tuesday.

The identity of the driver, who also died in the accident, has not yet been confirmed, said Bowen, who said a DNA test is required.

The accident occurred after a Blythe police officer attempted to stop the car the teens were in, leading to a chase.

Her car crashed head-on into a truck and caught fire.

The boys' mother, Shakeila Hicks-Scott, spoke to News 12 a few days ago to describe her pain.

“I remember waking up one day and having four kids,” she said. “Now I wake up and have two.”

Casey had just turned 13 on August 11th and Barry's birthday was just a few days away.
