Bridge fire in San Gabriel Canyon burns 800 acres, prompts road closures, evacuations – San Gabriel Valley Tribune

A wildfire in the Angeles National Forest had spread to approximately 800 acres by Sunday evening, September 8, and led to road closures and evacuations in the area.

Firefighters responded to the bridge fire in the area of ​​East Fork Road near Glendora Mountain Road in San Gabriel Canyon, the Angeles National Forest said on social media around 2:16 p.m. The fire broke out in Cattle Canyon, officials said.

Visitors were evacuated from the woods above Glendora and Azusa as emergency crews sounded a second alarm. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department issued a mandatory evacuation order for Camp Williams Resort outside of Azusa on East Fork Road, which includes a trailer park, campgrounds and a cafe, as well as the adjacent river community.

Emergency crews responded to the fire from the air and ground and prepared a firefighting attack on Glendora Ridge Road.

Night helicopters were deployed on Sunday evening to fight the fire.

Forest officials said Highway 39 was closed at the mouth of the canyon, and all East Fork, Glendora Mountain and Glendora Ridge roads were closed due to traffic congestion.
