Every game enhanced for PS5 Pro

After weeks of speculation and leaks, Sony officially unveiled the PS5 Pro during a nine-minute presentation that touched on some of the console's improvements. With better GPU performance, advanced ray tracing, and AI-powered upscaling, the PS5 Pro is designed to eliminate the choice between performance and fidelity modes that many of us currently have to make. In short, it's designed to give us both modes at once, and as part of the presentation, we got a glimpse of games that will be enhanced for the PlayStation 5 Pro by offering higher-resolution graphics that run at a smoother 60 frames per second.

While specific improvements have largely been limited to Sony's first-party games, we've gotten a broader look at the games that will take advantage of the hardware when it launches. Here are all the games we know so far that will be enhanced for PS5 Pro.

Alan-Wake 2

Thanks to the power of Remedy's advanced Northlight engine, Alan Wake 2 was already one of the best-looking games on the PS5 platform. The PS5 Pro will hopefully take it to a new level, especially when it comes to the atmospheric lighting effects in the New York City-like Dark Place.

Assassin's Creed Shadow

Ubisoft has made targeted improvements to the Anvil engine for Assassin's Creed Shadows, its upcoming historical adventure game set in feudal Japan. The extra power of the PS5 Pro will hopefully allow this engine to render a sprawling open world in 4K resolution at high frame rates, without sacrificing nice extras like cherry blossom gusts and tree pollen. At a constant 60 frames per second, the feel of combat also remains as sharp as Yasuke and Naoe's blades.

Demon Souls

Despite being a 2020 launch title, Demon's Souls remains one of the most visually impressive games on the PS5. The standard version has a Cinematic Mode that comes with all the bells and whistles and runs at 4K resolution at a maximum of 30 frames per second, as well as a Performance Mode that reduces the resolution to 1440p to hit 60 frames per second. The visual difference between the two is only slight, and as such, most people opt for Performance Mode, as timing is a crucial part of combat in Souls. Being able to harness the full power of Cinematic Mode at 60 frames per second will be a treat if the PS5 Pro offers it.

Dragon's Dogma 2

When Dragon's Dogma 2 launched earlier this year, it was criticized for its choppy performance on console, with 60fps being virtually impossible to achieve. Sony hasn't yet revealed any details on what to expect from the confirmed PS5 Pro enhancement, but hopefully it will bring the frame rate up to 60fps so we can enjoy those massive monster battles exactly as they were intended. With any luck, we'll be able to do that in 4K too, so we can see all the detail rendered by the impressive RE Engine.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Another 2024 game that suffered from performance issues is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which is often a graphical stunner but is limited to 30fps. Switching from Fidelity to Performance mode makes combat run buttery smooth, but that comes at the cost of disturbingly blurry visuals. FF7 Rebirth is a game that deserves to be played in the best possible situation, so it's best to showcase its beautiful world design and lovingly rendered characters, and hopefully the PS5 Pro upgrade will unlock its full potential.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 already looks damn good on PS5, running at a brisk 60 frames per second, but on PS5 Pro the emphasis seems to be on ray tracing, particularly between cars as they race around the track. This was demonstrated when a bright yellow Corvette drove past a blue Porsche Cayman GT4 and you could clearly see the reflection of the Corvette in the blue body panels as it passed. It looks good, but is it worth $700? That's up to you to decide.

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwart's Legacy was another game that really showed off the PS5 Pro's improved ray tracing capabilities, and as we walked through the doors to the Great Hall of Hogwarts, I was almost blinded by how shiny the stone floor was. In addition to more Reflections, we promise a greater diversity of reflective surfaces, a point made clear when a hippogriff flew gracefully over the Great Lake and the distant hills reflected in the icy water. Finally, ray tracing will also benefit shadows, promising greater realism.

Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West from Guerrilla Games was another first-party game showcased during the reveal, and thanks to the PS5 Pro's improvements, it looks to bridge the gap between Performance Mode and Fidelity Mode by taking full advantage of the improved GPU. During the presentation, we saw Horizon Forbidden West on the PS5 Pro with an improved level of graphical fidelity, from better lighting to more detailed skin and hair textures during cinematics.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 is the benchmark that all PS5 games aspire to, with high-end graphics and insane performance – but not necessarily at the same time. PlayStation architect Mark Cerny promises that with the PS5 Pro, you no longer have to choose between performance or graphics when playing a game like Spider-Man 2, and that Spider-Man 2 hits high-resolution graphics at the frame rate in Performance mode, so you get all that gorgeous detail at a sweet 60 frames per second.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was an early technical marvel for the PS5, and was particularly notable for the kind of jaw-dropping effects that could only be achieved thanks to the faster SSD in the base console. With the promised improvements of the PS5 Pro, we can now see that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart can maintain that high level of performance and gameplay while improving the graphics that suffered from performance degradation. We even see that the PS5 Pro can achieve better visual detail in Performance Mode while maintaining the same refresh rate.

The Crew Motorfest

Ubisoft's online racing game The Crew Motorfest was briefly shown off during the montage of games that will be enhanced thanks to the PS5 Pro. While we don't have details on those specific improvements, the brief flick showed what appeared to be improved reflections on the car surfaces, potentially meaning a similar visual improvement to Gran Turismo 7's graphics upgrade while maintaining 60fps.

The first descendant

Nexon's free-to-play MMORPG The First Descendant also appeared in the PS5 Pro montage, suggesting it will also receive performance and graphics upgrades with the new console. The clips shown during the montage were only from cinematics, so it's hard to determine what specific improvements will be added, but the PS5 Pro promises to bridge the gap between Performance and Fidelity modes, so you can expect even more graphical detail while maintaining a higher frame rate.

The Last of Us Part II – Remastered

During the presentation, we saw a side-by-side comparison of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on the PS5 Pro and the PS5 version in Fidelity mode. The forest environments Eliie explores look as lush and detailed as ever on the Pro, but the main difference is the frame rate – it runs at 60 frames per second, which looks much smoother compared to the standard PS5 version at a choppy 30 frames per second. When the presentation compared the original's Performance mode, the difference in detail was obvious – it's noticeably sharper on the PS5 Pro. This is further clear evidence that the Pro offers both high-resolution visuals and a smooth frame rate if you're willing to shell out $700.

These are all the games we know will be enhanced for the PS5 Pro. We'll be sure to add more as they're announced. In the meantime, check out how the internet reacted to the PS5 Pro's $700 price tag and watch the console's reveal trailer.
