Man allegedly attacked police officer during fight near Walmart in Glendale | Crime Files

Court documents show that a man is accused of multiple crimes in connection with an incident in a Walmart parking lot in West Valley that involved police officers who responded to the scene.

Here are the details.

Who is the suspect?

According to court documents, the suspect is 41-year-old Kyle A. Hawkins. Court documents list an address for Hawkins in Lake Havasu City.

What happened?

Investigators said police were called to the area around 55th Avenue and Northern at around 11:08 p.m. on September 5 for reports of a family dispute.

“The reporting person stated that there was a white Toyota sedan in the parking lot and a male was being punched by a passenger,” part of the court documents state. “The male passenger then began to pull a female passenger out of the car and grab her.”

When officers arrived at the scene, the person who called police pointed to a man across the street and said he was the one involved.

“This man would be the defendant,” investigators wrote, referring to Hawkins.

Investigators say officers on the scene then made contact with Hawkins. Officers said Hawkins was “acting strangely, pacing back and forth on the sidewalk and yelling.” Hawkins also refused to comply with officers' requests to stop and sit down.

“One officer stood behind him and the other in front of him. The defendant faced the officer in front of him and raised his right hand, making an L shape with his thumb and index finger, imitating a gun. He then said 'bang, bang,' before hastily walking toward the officer,” part of the court documents say. “The officers felt that the defendant was attempting to intimidate them and was about to attack them.”

According to police, Hawkins was then thrown to the ground by a police officer who approached him from behind.

“Officers attempted to gain control of his arms when defendant stated, 'You have to shoot me,'” investigators wrote. “The defendant then reached out and began pulling on an officer's gun in an attempt to gain control. One of the officers notices this and strikes defendant in the back of the head with his elbow.”

According to investigators, Hawkins later attempted to punch one of the officers, hitting him in the arm.

“The defendant then reaches out and attempts to grab an officer's vest to once again obtain a weapon,” part of the court documents state. “The defendant is then struck a second time with an elbow to the back of the head. One officer gains control of the defendant's legs while the other gains control of his upper body, and they wait for a third officer to arrive on the scene and take him into custody.”

Investigators note that after Hawkins was handcuffed, he continued to “resist, aggressively shake his body back and forth, and kick his legs.”

“Three officers had to restrain him until firefighters arrived and sedated him,” investigators wrote. “The defendant was extremely sweaty and his pupils were extremely dilated. He was talking nonsense and claiming he was Wolverine from the X-Men. He appeared to be heavily intoxicated on illegal drugs.”

According to investigators, Hawkins was taken to the hospital where three staples were placed on a cut on the back of his head.
