News in brief: Palestinian officials say Israeli airstrike on tent camp killed at least 19 people

Geoff Bennett:

In the video, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari shows a small corridor more than 20 meters underground where the hostages were held. He says the entrance was above ground in a child's bedroom in Rafah.

The discovery of the hostages' bodies sparked mass protests in Israel. Demonstrators called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to negotiate a ceasefire with Hamas.

Separately, the Israeli military said today that the American activist killed in the West Bank last week was likely shot indirectly and unintentionally. According to witnesses, Aysenur Eygi was hit in the head by Israeli soldiers shortly after an anti-settlement demonstration.

Israel expressed regret and said its troops had targeted someone else. Today, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, on a visit to Britain, called Israel's killing gratuitous and unjustified.

Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State: No one, no one should be shot for participating in a demonstration. In our view, the Israeli security forces must fundamentally change their approach in the West Bank, including a change in the rules of engagement.
