Rural Middletown man killed in plane crash near Sulphur Springs

NEW CASTLE, Indiana – A rural Middletown man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the small plane he was flying crashed on a grass runway in northern Henry County.

David Michael Province, 82, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash south of U.S. 36 and west of Henry County Road 200-West, according to Henry County Coroner Brian Clark.

The plane – a 1975 Stewart Bowers Flybaby – reportedly came to rest upside down in a bean field along the runway. According to an Indiana State Police news release, a preliminary investigation indicated the crash occurred during takeoff.
