Who is “Saturday Night Live” newcomer Jane Wickline from Philadelphia?

Internet personality and comedian Jane Wickline, best known for her TikTok skits, will soon move from phone screens to television screens.

Wickline, who has lived and worked in Philadelphia as a copy editor since 2021, was cast in the upcoming 50th season of Saturday Night Live. She currently lives in Brooklyn.

She is one of three new cast members, joining other newcomers Ashley Padilla and Emil Wakim.

Wickline built her reputation on TikTok, where she has amassed nearly a million followers and 45 million likes for her short, dryly humorous videos since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. She was part of the cast of the TikTok live sketch show. Stack view, which was described as the TikTok version of Saturday Night Live.

She is also one half of the variety duo Dukes, along with Liva Pierce. Dukes recently went on a mini-tour with stops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, where they performed at Johnny Brenda's.

An NBC blog post about Wickline's addition to the cast also notes that she “plays a great trumpet.”

Vanity Fair called Wickline a “centerpiece of Brooklyn’s alternative comedy scene” and noted that the comedian’s inclusion in SNLThe roster of performers will help with the recent infusion of Generation Z talent into the show.

With increases come reductions. Saturday Night Live The cast includes Chloe Troast, Punkie Johnson and Molly Kearney.

The upcoming season of SNL is already highly anticipated as Maya Rudolph has been confirmed to return to reprise her role as Kamala Harris.

Wickline representatives could not be reached for comment.

The last comedian with Philadelphia ties to join the long-running comedy show was Shane Gillis, who was hired in 2019 along with Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman. His tenure was short-lived, however – video clips in which Gillis used a racial slur for Chinese people and made fun of Asian accents, as well as another video in which he dropped homophobic slurs, led to a revocation of his invitation to join the cast.

Gillis has claimed that his quotes were taken out of context and that he would apologize to anyone who was offended by his remarks. He has nevertheless had a successful career as a comedian, with several comedy specials, a recurring role on Pete Davidson's No idea, and his own Netflix show. In February, Gillis hosted an episode of Saturday Night Liveabout four years after he was fired from the show. He was recently featured in the Eagles season hype video.

Saturday Night LiveSeason 50 premieres on NBC on September 28 and airs live on Peacock, and is available to stream on Peacock the next day.
