No injuries in accident on highway involving semi-trailer and construction vehicle

HENRIETTA, NY – A semi-trailer truck loaded with broken glass struck two vehicles, including a construction vehicle, on the Thruway Tuesday and overturned, sending it spiraling down an embankment.

It happened in the westbound lane between the Henrietta and Le Roy exits.

Emergency crews closed the right lane and shoulder while they cleaned up the scene. Henrietta firefighters said the closure will continue overnight.

According to the Henrietta Fire Department, there were no injuries.

According to a post from the Henrietta Fire District, the accident was caused when a tractor-trailer carrying empty glass containers struck a car and then a wheeled excavator working on the highway. The impact tore off the excavator's axle. The tractor-trailer rolled down a hill, taking down a 100-foot guardrail. The driver of the tractor-trailer and the car were uninjured, and the excavator driver suffered minor injuries. The right lane and shoulder will be closed overnight while authorities attempt to recover the truck and trailer. The NYSP is investigating.
