Arsonist arrested for allegedly starting Line Fire in San Bernardino County

Authorities have identified and arrested a San Bernardino County man for allegedly devastating line firein which over 14,000 hectares of bushland were set on fire and at least one house was destroyed.

While details of their investigation are still scarce, Cal Fire investigators worked with detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department to identify the suspect as 34-year-old Justin Wayne Halstenberg of Norco.

They believe it is responsible for igniting the fire that broke out in the area of ​​Baseline Road and Alpin Street in Highland on Friday. Since then, it has exploded in size, leaving a trail of devastation as it continues to burn through the San Bernardino Mountains, eventually reaching Big Bear.

Halstenberg was arrested Tuesday before being charged with arson. He is being held on $80,000 bail, investigators said.

They did not disclose why they believed Halstenberg set the fire.

The Line Fire is one of three major wildfires currently raging in Southern California, along with the Bridge fire in the Angeles National Forest, which expanded to 34,000 acres on Tuesday and forced several communities to evacuate, and the Airport fire The storm devoured nearly 8,000 acres of land between Orange County and Riverside County and destroyed numerous homes.
