Mega Millions winner 2024: $800 million jackpot won in Sugarland, Texas

SUGARLAND, Texas (WABC) – One lucky person was $800 million richer after securing the only winning ticket in the last Mega Millions drawing.

This winning ticket was sold in Sugarland, Texas. This win comes months after the last winner in Illinois took home a jackpot of $552 million.

The $800 million jackpot in Tuesday night's drawing is the seventh-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

In New York, a person matched five numbers and won $1 million.

The winning numbers from Tuesday were: 16-1-66-2-24 Mega Ball: 6

The jackpot had been growing steadily since someone won $552 million in Illinois on June 4.

Since then, more than 20.7 million winning tickets have been sold in 27 drawings, including secondary prizes of $1 million or more, including tickets sold in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

According to Mega Millions, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, DC, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $2 for a game.
