Briton charged with murder after allegedly headbutting and punching top chef trained by Gordon Ramsay

A British man has been charged with murder after he allegedly headbutted a top chef trained by Gordon Ramsay during London's Notting Hill Carnival and then repeatedly punched the victim while he lay on the ground.

Omar Wilson, 31, is accused of brutally attacking Mussie Imnetu, 41, outside a restaurant at around 11.30pm on August 26 after the carnival event – billed as Europe's biggest street party – had ended, police said.

The Dubai-based chef, who was visiting London on business, was found unconscious on the street and died four days later in hospital.

The BBC reported that Wilson, who was initially arrested immediately afterward on grievous bodily harm charges, was upgraded to murder during a court hearing on Monday.

Prosecutors allege Wilson “headbutted” the victim after some sort of interaction occurred between the two near the fairground event, according to the court.

A minute later, Wilson allegedly punched the deceased “five times in the head” and continued beating him after he fell to the ground, prosecutors said.

Imnetu later died of what police described as “catastrophic brain injuries.”

It was not immediately clear what preceded the alleged attack.

The victim was the head chef of the Brasserie, a members-only restaurant at the Arts Club Dubai.

According to police, in the hours before the attack, Imnetu was seen leaving the Arts Club's London location and heading near the carnival.

According to the club's website, Imnetu previously worked under Ramsay as well as celebrity chefs Alain Ducasse and Marcus Wareing.

Meanwhile, Wilson – who did not confess during Monday's hearing – was ordered held without bail ahead of his next court date on Nov. 25.
