Gen And The Degenerates release new video for “Girls”

Gen and the Degenerates have released a new video for their song 'Girls', with Without invitation.

The entertaining new visualizer sees the band let loose in a pub and bring the track to life.

“Girls” is of course from the band’s debut album “ANTI-FUN PROPAGANDA”, which is now released on Marshall Records.

Recorded and produced by Ross Orton, the record has received critical acclaim since its release in February.

Singer Genevieve Glynn-Reeves explained the creation of the video and the moving story behind it as follows:

“My friend Lara died last year and was the life of the party.

“It was lonely to experience the loss of someone who had such a huge impact on your formative years without anyone around who knew them.

“Shooting the video was a healing process and an incredibly empowering experience for me. There was an incredible energy on set. It was like we had thrown the best queer girl party ever.”

“Her brother Matt Chandler came on board to direct the video. He's an incredible director and put so many little nods to her in the video. We're so lucky to be working with him.

“It was a beautiful, joyful tribute to Lara, which was kindly attended by her wonderful friends and even her mother at Matt's request.”

And with the release of the new music video, Gen and co. have also announced details of some intimate shows in London and Manchester, featuring both queer and female-centric acts.

All proceeds from the show go to the Malala Fund, a charity founded by student and Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai that supports educational programs for girls.

Gen spoke a little more about the impetus for these shows, adding:

“When I saw the video, I was so inspired by the sense of community I felt. I knew it was beyond me and my experience. Community can be healing and valuable for so many reasons. I wanted to do more with that ethos and the next logical step seemed to be live shows.

“When live music is done well, you almost immediately feel like something bigger than yourself. It was also a chance to support some new artists I believe in.

“I am so excited about the acts that are supporting us. I have personally selected them and will be proud to share the stage with them all.

“Given what is happening in the larger global context, it is important to remember that our community should extend beyond those in our immediate surroundings.

“We want to donate the money we earn from the show to the Malala Fund to support the education of women and girls around the world.”

The band will also perform at this year’s Reeperbahn Festival in Germany.
