Assault on a police officer: Adrian P. Dzierzega, 22, of Justice, was arrested Aug. 31 and charged with aggravated assault and disobeying a police officer after he drove his motorcycle into a traffic officer directing traffic in the 7300 block of 71st Street while attempting to evade the officer's orders, police said.

POLICE OFFICER BEAT: A Buffalo, New York, man and a Pine River, Wisconsin, woman were arrested Sept. 1 and charged with assault after they punched a deputy police officer after the North Coast Music Festival program ended Aug. 31, police said. Adam E. Schichtel, 28, and Isabella VC McCoy, 23, separately punched the officer in the face at Geek Seat Stadium when the officer confronted Schichtel, police said.

Burbank

AFTER-ASSASSINATION: Frederick L. Ward III, 21, 6800 block of 97th Place, Chicago Ridge, is charged with two counts of felony assault on a police officer, according to a Cook County court spokesman. The charge stems from a multi-vehicle crash Aug. 16 in the 8300 block of Cicero Avenue, according to a police report, which adds a charge of failure to give information/render aid.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: Officers conducted a business check at Popeye's, 4809 77th St., early on the morning of Aug. 24 and found a broken glass door, a mess inside, and the cash registers open.

Chicago Mountain

TRAFFIC RAGE: Starisha Y. Hamilton, 34, of Hanover Park, was arrested during an argument Aug. 25 in the 100 block of Chicago Ridge Mall Drive and charged with assault after she punched the complainant through the open window of his car and then slammed the car door in his face as he tried to get out, police said.

CHOKING: David R. Taylor, 57, of Midlothian, is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court in Bridgeview on Oct. 8. The charge: assault. Police said Taylor approached the complainant from behind on July 8 and squeezed his neck for about 20 seconds.

Evergreen Park

ATM robbery: Surveillance video shows two men using crowbars and chains to break into the ATM at the Meijer gas station/branch, 9200 Western Ave., at 5:23 a.m. on Aug. 30, police said. Officers who entered the ATM found heavy chains and door frames at the store entrance and discovered that the inside of the damaged ATM was missing.

ILLEGAL WEAPON: Trekari L. Collins, 24, of Dewitt, Michigan, was arrested Sept. 3 in the parking lot of a shopping club and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle after officers found him sleeping in a car reported stolen from Benton Harbor, Michigan, with a loaded .40-caliber handgun under a seat without the required firearm permit, police said.

Frankfurt Square

BREAKDOWN: An irate Frankfort Square man was taken to a hospital for evaluation Sunday after a five-hour standoff with Will County officers ended peacefully, although he briefly displayed a toy gun, police said. The man began throwing objects into the intersection of 80th Avenue and Westport Drive at 1:30 p.m. and then retreated into his nearby home when officers arrived in response to a 911 call, sheriff's police said. The man emerged from his rooftop but was eventually calmed down by negotiation specialists, sheriff's police said.

ACCIDENT UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL: Lantz Green, 32, 1700 block of 168th Street, Hazel Crest, was arrested during the accident investigation Aug. 17 at the corner of Halsted Street and Maple Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, hit and run, resisting arrest, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving without insurance and illegal use of the roadway, police said.

PROPERTY DAMAGE: Amy Miotke, 43, of the 2400 block of Terrace Avenue in Lynwood, was arrested Aug. 27 and charged with property damage after she smashed another motorist's windshield and driver's side window in the 800 block of Ridge Road, police said.

Lansing

AFTER-FIGHTING BODILY INJURY: Keith Harper, 42, of Merrillville, Indiana, was arrested Aug. 24 and subsequently charged with felony assault on a police officer after repeatedly kicking an officer during a disturbance, police said.

ARMED ROBBERY: An employee of the Star Budz Canna Café, 3420 Ridge Road, was shot in the back during an armed robbery Friday night while struggling with two men, but escaped with non-life-threatening injuries as the two stole merchandise in a back room, police said.

Lockport

PHONE HARASSMENT: A Homer Glen man who repeatedly called an acquaintance and her family after changing his phone number to appear to be from other family members was arrested Aug. 31 on a warrant charging him with two counts of electronic harassment and one count of disturbing the peace, according to online Will County police and court records. Joseph K. Sweiss, 26, 14600 block of Pebble Creek Court, allegedly made at least five calls on May 28, according to online police and court records.

Money

STRANGULATION: Brandon A. Southerland, 36, 5300 Mulberry Lane, Monee, was arrested Sept. 6 and subsequently charged with two counts of aggravated domestic violence/strangulation, police said. Southerland is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Sept. 23, Will County online court records show.

New Lenox

BURGLARY: The fenced yard of a retail agricultural store in the 2100 block of East Lincoln Highway was forcibly broken into Sept. 6, and two all-terrain vehicles were pushed out and abandoned after their security devices were cut.

Oak lawn

GUN: Timothy Williams, 57, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after officers recovered a loaded .22-caliber handgun during an Aug. 27 traffic stop that began at the corner of 91st Place and Pulaski Road and ended in the 11000 block of Pulaski Road, police said. Williams was also charged with drunken driving, fleeing and driving more than 40 miles per hour over the speed limit, police said.

ILLEGAL WEAPON: Cody J. Lenard, 31, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, was arrested Aug. 29 during a suspicious person investigation at the corner of 101st Street and Cicero Avenue after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun with a laser sight attached, police said. Lenard was subsequently charged with aggravated unlicensed use of a weapon/no license, police said.

Palos Heights

ILLEGAL WEAPON: Nestor A. Bandera, 21, Chicago, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from the center console of his vehicle during a traffic stop Sept. 4 in the 13000 block of Harlem Avenue, police said. Bandera was also charged with driving with a suspended license, driving with an expired registration and driving without proof of insurance, police said.

Park Forest

ILLEGAL WEAPON: A Park Forest man is scheduled to appear in Cook County Court in Markham on Sept. 20. He is charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police and a court spokesman said. Officers arrested Trey A. Hawthorne, 20, 100 block of Warwick Street, during a traffic stop Aug. 29 after seizing a loaded Glock 21 .45-caliber pistol with a loaded extended magazine and a device to convert it into an automatic submachine gun. They determined Hawthorne did not have the required firearms licenses and was too young to qualify for either license, police said.

Steger

ILLEGAL WEAPON: Stephen MJ Byrnes, 23, of Crown Point, Indiana, was arrested Aug. 31 and subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a permit after officers seized a loaded 9 mm handgun from him, police said.

University Park

GUN ASSAULT: A Chicago man who entered a home in the 500 block of Circle Drive on Sept. 7 and threatened residents with a handgun was arrested the same day after officers retrieved a loaded .22-caliber handgun from his car, police said. Adrian D. Logan, 27, is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Sept. 23. He is charged with trespassing and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/vehicle, according to Will County online court records. Logan, who has a gun permit but no license to carry a concealed weapon, is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of domestic violence, court records show.
