Teenager charged in shooting death of 13-year-old in neighborhood near Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Police say a 15-year-old is now facing charges in connection with the shooting death of another teen over Labor Day weekend.

Horry County police said Wednesday that the teenager, whose identity was not released because of his age, will face manslaughter charges in connection with the death of 13-year-old Jaiden Smalls.

The charges are related to an incident that occurred on Terrace View Court on the morning of September 1. At the time, the HCPD said the shooting was “an isolated incident involving minor residents of the same household.”

The HCPD reiterated on Wednesday that the accused 15-year-old comes from the same household as Smalls, but did not provide any information about the exact relationship between the two.

“Our thoughts are with the family as they struggle with many forms of grief during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement.

A police report, also obtained by WMBF News, states only that an HCPD officer arrived at the scene and that additional officers and investigators arrived later. No further information about the incident was released.

Some neighbors told WMBF News they heard gunshots, adding that the incident made them nervous and unsure of their safety.
