Mac & Cheese brand sold at Target, Stop & Shop and Safeway is recalled

A brand of macaroni and cheese sold in major retail chains such as Target, Safeway and Stop & Shop has been voluntarily recalled over concerns that the products may have spoiled due to refrigeration problems, a report said.

According to Newsweek, Reser's Fine Foods last week recalled two of its macaroni cheese products – the standard version and the white cheddar version.

The brand pulled the 12-ounce products, which are sold in California, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, from the market after a trailer's refrigeration unit malfunctioned, the publication reported.

Reser's American Classics Macaroni & Cheese – 12 oz and Reser's American Classics Macaroni & Cheese White Cheddar – 12 oz have been voluntarily recalled due to refrigeration issues.

The recall has been classified as a Class II risk, meaning the “product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or there is a remote likelihood of serious adverse health consequences,” according to the Food and Drug Administration..

Twelve other products from the brand were recalled, including Reser's Essential Everyday Original Potato Salad – 16 oz, Reser's American Classics Scalloped Potatoes – 12 oz, Reser's American Classics Asiago Creamed Spinach – 12 oz and Reser's Raspberry Parfait Desserts – 8 lbs, Newsweek reported.

Customers who have purchased any of the recalled items are advised not to consume the products. People with allergies should take precautions.

According to the FDA, Reser's Fine Foods also voluntarily recalled 48-ounce Hill Country Fare Mustard Potato Salad sold at HEB and Joe V's Smart Shop stores in Texas in July because the packaging may have contained pieces of hard plastic as foreign material.
