Stabbing leads to arrest for attempted murder in Palm Springs –

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at approximately 5:41 a.m., Palm Springs Police officers responded to a call from a man in the 400 block of E Arenas Road asking for help but could not provide any specific information.

When officers arrived at the scene, they heard a male voice inside the house that was obviously distressed. After entering the house, officers discovered a man with significant injuries who was Assault. The victim told officers he had been stabbed but was unable to identify the attacker. He was transported to a local hospital where he is currently in serious but stable condition.

Later, at approximately 9:13 a.m., the Palm Springs Police Department received a call from a man in the 100 block of N. Sunrise Way who claimed to have been assaulted the previous night. Officers responded and identified the caller as Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, a resident of Cathedral City. Through further investigation, officers determined that Gonzales was the suspect in the earlier stabbing incident.

Gonzales was arrested for attempted murder and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
