Netflix's “Arcane” is absolutely fascinating in the first trailer for the second season

It's finally here: The first full trailer for Netflix's incredible animated series Arcane came out this morning and it's absolutely insane. (You can watch the teaser trailer, which came out in June, here.)

Netflix has now released a full two-minute and twenty-second trailer and several new official images of the magical cyberpunk series based on the League of Legends Video game by Riot Games.

The story follows two sisters, Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell), as they navigate the politics and violent factions of the city of Piltover and its dangerous undercity. The estranged sisters take very different paths and find themselves on opposite sides of a deadly battle.

Meanwhile, the young and ambitious Jayce Talis (Kevin Alejandro) has discovered how to combine magic with science. He calls it Hextech and rises to the political stratosphere thanks to the power he has unleashed. Jayce's fate remains uncertain – after the cliffhanger ending of the first season.

Here is the trailer for season 2:

The series – which sadly ends in season 2 – was created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee. In addition to Purnell and Steinfeld, the talented cast includes Katie Leung (Caitlyn), Reed Shannon (Ekko), Amirah Vann (Sevika), Mick Wingert (Heimerdinger), Ellen Thomas (Ambessa) and Brett Tucker (Singed), with more to be announced.

Arcane The truly amazing animation comes from animation studio Fortiche Production. According to the press release, “Fortiche directed and produced the animation under the direction of founders Pascal Charrue and Arnaud Delord.”

Some selected quotes:

  • “You were right, Kate, my sister is gone. Now only Jinx is left.”
  • “I wanted to rip that laugh out of her throat forever.”
  • “To bring peace back to this city, we must impose martial law.”
  • “The real enemy is the surface.”
  • “So what are you going to do?” “Watch everything burn.”
  • “The mysterious awakens.”
  • “Sometimes taking a leap forward means leaving some things behind.”
  • “This has to stop.” “Then… stop me.”

Wow, this looks good and if it's anywhere near as brilliant as the first season, it will be.

Here are the other pictures released today:

Arcane is coming back this November. I bought the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray of the first season from Gkids because it's just one of those shows that deserves to be watched with the highest possible picture and sound fidelity. On the other hand, I've become a born-again lover of physical media.
