Portland police seize large quantity of fentanyl in drug raid

A Maine woman is facing multiple charges after she was arrested in connection with an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in Portland. Nichole Staples, 35, of Portland, was arrested on Sherwood Street at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Portland police said. Police said Staples was in possession of 88.4 grams of fentanyl, which is considered lethal at just 2 milligrams. The suspect also had $2,164 in cash on her person. Staples, who also had nine outstanding warrants for her arrest, was also charged with trafficking in prescription drugs and violating conditions of release. After her arrest, she was taken to the Cumberland County Jail. Portland police said members of the Crime Reduction Unit and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency also participated in the arrest.
