DuBois man charged with attempted murder after shots fired outside apartment

Authorities said a DuBois man has been charged with attempted murder following an investigation into an alleged shooting incident last week outside a Jefferson County apartment complex.

According to police, 42-year-old William Donnelly is behind bars after allegedly firing several shots at a vehicle during an alleged altercation last Friday.

According to the affidavit, the victim told police that he and a friend stopped at a gas station in Reynoldsville late Friday night and met a woman he knew.

According to police, the victim met Donnelly at the gas station, who was waiting outside.

Investigators said the victim and his friend left the gas station and were on their way to the victim's mother's home when shots were reportedly fired at their vehicle.

Authorities said that when the victim arrived at the Ridge Wood Green Apartments complex, he got out of the vehicle and saw three men running toward him.

According to police, Donnelly and two unknown people followed them to the apartment complex.

According to police, one of the unidentified men allegedly carried an axe and used it to smash one of the vehicle's windows.

According to investigators, the victim screamed, “Are you sure you want to do this?” Donnelly then allegedly fired two more shots at the vehicle, hitting the passenger door.

According to police, the victim told authorities he believed Donnelly was trying to kill him.

According to online court records, Donnelly was arraigned late Tuesday night on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail and has been denied bail because authorities say he poses an “extreme danger to the victim and society.”
