Whoopi Goldberg says Beyoncé's rejection of the 2024 CMA Awards is no surprise

Beyoncé fans may have been disappointed by the superstar’s lack of nomination for Cowboy Carter at the 2024 CMA Awards, but Whoopi Goldberg says she doesn't understand the fuss.

“Many people are surprised – I don't know why – that there was not a single nomination for the CMA Award. Well, that is the question: Are You surprised?” Goldberg, 68, said in the September 10 episode The view. “I don't think she was snubbed, I think they just didn't do it… it wasn't for her.”

Beyoncé's debut country album featured one of the biggest hit singles of the year: “Texas Hold 'Em.” Cowboy Carter There were also collaborations with contemporary country artists such as Malone and Shaboozey as well as one of the pioneers of the genre, Linda Martell.

Cowboy Carterwhich was released on March 29, reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 and made Beyoncé the first black woman to top the Hot Country Albums chart. The singer also achieved top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and “II Most Wanted” feat. Miley Cyrus.

fellow View Jury member Sunny Hostin said she was dismayed that Beyoncé was not on the CMA Awards nominations list – especially after Parton Cowboy Carter to introduce “Jolene”.

“I love Dolly Parton, so when the Queen of Country passed the baton a little bit for 'Jolene,' an incredible song on her album, and 'Texas Hold 'Em,' two incredible country songs, I thought she would at least be nominated for those two,” said Hostin, 55. “But my mom always told me, 'Find the audience that's looking for you.' That audience isn't looking for her.”

But Goldberg has consistently rejected the notion of “snubs” at entertainment awards. In January, when Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were nominated for Oscars for Barbieshe made her thoughts clear.

“There are no snubs. You have to keep that in mind: Not everyone gets an award, and it's subjective. Films are subjective,” Goldberg said on The view back then. “The movies you love may not be loved by the people who vote.”
