Prisco's NFL tips for week 2: Vikings beat 49ers, Patriots improve to 2-0, Giants are the best commanders

As I told you last week, I hate picking Week 1 NFL games.

But surprisingly, I had a decent week.

I'm 8-6-2 against the spread and 10-6 straight up, which is a decent start to the 2024 NFL season. The unpredictability of Week 1 is the challenge. The next part is figuring out how much of Week 1 is real.

Let's hope I did a reasonably good job of fakes here, because I'm trying to keep my head above .500 even after two weeks.

Week 1 wasn't that bad.

Let's hope week 2 will be even better.

Thursday, 8:15 p.m. ET (Prime Video)

Josh Allen has dominated the Miami Dolphins in his career with a record of 11-2. That will not change in this game. It is always tough for the Bills to play in the heat, but this is a night game. Sure, it is a short week, but the Bills will do enough on defense and Allen will win it in the end. He continues his dominance over the Dolphins.

Choose: Bills 28, Dolphins 24

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Outstanding+)

This is the Raiders' second straight road game against a team that is rested for its home opener – and on the East Coast at that. This is a brutal trip for the Raiders. Their offense struggled against the Chargers and will struggle here. The Ravens will have no problems. Lamar Jackson is having a nice game.

Choose: Ravens 28, Raiders 16

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Outstanding+)

This is a long road trip for the Chargers in the early time zone, but the Panthers are bad. They were awful in their opening game and are now without defensive tackle Derrick Brown, their best defensive player. The offense is really bad. The Chargers will likely win both offensive lines if they get a road win.

Choose: Chargers 26, Panthers 9

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fubo)

This game features teams that have had two of the better performances in the past week. The Cowboys are playing their first home game since beating the Browns, while the Saints are playing their first away game. Dallas' defense was stifling against the Browns and I think that will continue against the Saints. The Cowboys are 2-0, but it's close.

Choose: Cowboys 23, Saints 18

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fubo)

This is a rematch of last season's playoff game, which the Lions won. The Bucs were close in that game, but this is a tough assignment with a banged up secondary. Still, Baker Mayfield is back in the game. The Lions will win by a narrow margin.

Choose: Lions 30, Bucs 27

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fubo)

With Jordan Love out, Malik Willis will play for the Packers. This is a real challenge for Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff. The Colts had some great attacks against the Texans, but also conceded a lot. The Packers will rally around their new quarterback, but that won't be enough. The Colts will get a road win.

Choose: Colts 23, Packers 20

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Outstanding+)

The Jaguars blew a fourth-quarter lead and lost to the Dolphins, while Cleveland was beaten at home by Dallas. Deshaun Watson was awful. It's a tough task to bounce back on the road against a Jaguars defense that slowed Miami. Jacksonville will win no matter what.

Choose: Jaguars 24, Browns 19

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Outstanding+)

Both teams impressed in their Week 1 wins. The 49ers put a good Jets defense under pressure without Christian McCaffrey. That Minnesota defense impressed against New York and I think they'll play well here. It's close. Really close, but we've got to give the win to the Vikings in an upset.

Choose: Vikings 22, 49ers 21

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fubo)

This is a long first road trip for the Seahawks as they face a team that beat the Bengals last week. The Patriots defense was good in this game and Seattle has issues with their offensive line. I think that will show if the Patriots win a low-scoring game thanks to their defense.

Choose: Pittsburgh 20, Seahawks 16

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Outstanding+)

These two looked bad in the Week 1 losses. The Jets defense struggled a lot while the Titans offense looked bad. Will Levis needs to get better. The Titans defense was excellent last week. That defense will keep them in the game in this one and Levis will win it with a late drive.

Choose: Titans 23, Jets 20

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, fubo)

Both are coming off losses, and bad ones at that. The Giants seemed to be the worse of the two teams, and now they're on the road. The Commanders will see some big plays from Jayden Daniels, but the Giants will regroup here to win.

Choose: Giants 21, Commanders 19

Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET (Fox, fubo)

The Cardinals blew a big lead in Buffalo last week and now have to play a division rival in their first home game. The Rams have two away games in a row, which is always tough. Their offensive line is also in trouble. But the Rams have dominated the Cardinals, winning 13 of their last 15 games. Not this time.

Choose: Cardinals 27, Rams 21

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS, Outstanding+)

The Steelers are playing two straight away games as their defense won against the Falcons last week. This defense is traveling and will make life difficult for Bo Nix, who struggled in the opening game. With Justin Fields at quarterback for the Bears, this will be a low-scoring game. It's close, but the Steelers win.

Choose: Steelers 17, Broncos 16

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS, Outstanding+)

The Bengals were bad in their opening loss to the Patriots, but they have always played well against the Chiefs with Joe Burrow. The offense doesn't have the firepower to keep up with the Chiefs right now. Patrick Mahomes will have a lot of fun with his speedy new receivers if the Chiefs get to 2-0.

Choose: Chiefs 30, Bengals 20

Chicago Bears at Houston Texans (-6.5)

Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC, fubo)

This will be Caleb Williams' first road game after a poor start in a win over the Titans. He needs to get better. The Texans impressed with their road win, but they allowed the Colts to make some big plays. The Bears defense will slow down CJ. Stroud, but turnovers will give the Texans the win.

Choose: Texans 23, Bears 13

Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN, fubo)

The Eagles will have extra rest here after beating Green Bay last Friday. The Falcons were lifeless on offense against the Steelers, while the Eagles were able to run at will against the Packers. That will continue here. Kirk Cousins will be better than he was a week ago, but not quite what the Falcons need to win.

Choose: Eagles 27, Falcons 24
