Pig head incident in California home investigated as hate crime

Earlier this week, a severed pig's head was left outside the door of a Sacramento home, prompting authorities to investigate the unusual incident as a possible hate crime.

The pig's head was reported to Sacramento police around 7:30 a.m. Monday, a department told USA TODAY in an email Wednesday. The incident occurred in a North Natomas neighborhood, police said.

According to police, an investigation was conducted, during which several photographs were taken by investigators at the scene. The incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime because it was “abnormal” and “unusual,” the department said.

Police said investigators will now investigate whether there were any prejudiced motives for disposing of the pig's head in the house.

The homeowner told Fox 40 that a video from Ring allegedly shows someone wearing some sort of hoodie approaching the entrance to the residence.
