CBS releases new update on Blue Bloods Season 14B

Blue Bloods returns this fall, with Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan saying goodbye to the Reagan family. Ahead of the October 18 return, CBS has released the official synopsis for the first episode, titled “Life Sentence.”

It says it promises plenty of drama: “The Reagans' professional lives converge when the jury tampering charge against Erin intertwines with the Danny and Baez murder case and Eddie's bond with a child murder witness; Frank clashes with his friend and confidant Archbishop Kearns over the death penalty; and when Jamie's car is stolen, he teams up with his nephew Joe Hill to get it back.”

Season 14B marks the beginning of the end and will consist of eight remaining episodes that will air weekly. After the show was canceled in November 2023, it was initially assumed that Blue Blood ended, Donnie Wahlberg gave his fans hope.

During a New Kids on the Block concert in August, the actor said “something big” could be in the works.

“We filmed the last season of Blue Bloods and it will be airing in October. Maybe there will be something else after that,” he explained. “I don't know anything official yet, but there are a few things in the works. So maybe something great will happen. You know I'll definitely be doing something after Blue Bloods.”

While the future of the Blue Bloods universe remains uncertain, the stars are looking forward to their upcoming reunion at PaleyFest in New York. Donnie revealed that he will be joined by the “entire cast” on October 17 – including Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Vanessa Ray, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez and Kevin Wade.

The official PaleyFest website states that the actors will say goodbye to the police drama with an advance screening of one of the final episodes, followed by a conversation with the cast and creative team.

Several actors have expressed their disappointment over the cancellation of the police series. Tom Selleck – aka Frank Reagan – was particularly vocal and openly criticized CBS's decision.

“CBS is going to find that a lot of people aren't ready to say goodbye to it,” Tom told TV Insider. “The show is more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with interest this year. We certainly won't run out of ideas yet.”

In May, Tom even suggested that the network should “come to its senses” and renew Blue Bloods. “We're the third most scripted show in all of broadcasting. We're the winner of the night. All the cast members want to come back. And I can tell you: We're not going down the drain. We're making good shows and we're still holding our own,” he said.
