A'ja Wilson's Point Tracker: Aces star overtakes Jewell Loyd to set WNBA single-season points record

Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson is having one of the best seasons in WNBA history.

Wilson, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, is the projected MVP of the WNBA since the start of the 2024 season. In addition to her on-court accomplishments with the Aces, Wilson was named MVP of the women's basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics.

The 28-year-old has made history this season and added to her long list of accolades, as she is set to have what is in many ways the highest scoring season in league history. Not only is Wilson's scoring average the highest in league history, she will also be the first WNBA player to surpass the 1,000-point mark in a single season.

Here's where Wilson stands on her way to the top of the league's history and how she compares to other best single-point seasons in league history.

A'ja Wilson overtakes Jewell Lloyd and holds the WNBA season record

On September 11, Wilson finally surpassed Loyd in a game against Caitlin Clark and the Fever to set the WNBA record for most points in a season, scoring her 940th point on a jump shot late in the second quarter.

In 3 games, Wilson has scored 929 points, just 10 points below Loyd's record of 939 points set in the 2023 season.

Based on Wilson's average of 27.3 points per game, she could break Loyd's record in the first half of her next game against Las Vegas.

WNBA all-time single-season leaderboard

Not only is Wilson on the verge of breaking the single-season scoring record, but she is also just 75 points away from becoming the league's first player to score 1,000 points in a season. Wilson has played in 34 of Las Vegas' first 35 games and has scored 71 points in five games, a number she could easily surpass based on her scoring average.

An important point for the all-time list is that the 2023 WNBA season has been extended to 40 games. Diana Taurasi's most successful seasons both came when the league had 34 games. To better understand the different season lengths, the table below also lists the point average.
