Katy Perry says her daughter Daisy will see the 2024 MTV VMAs “for the first time”

Katy Perry, who will receive the Video Vanguard award at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, has the support of her biggest fans.

On Wednesday, September 11, the pop star walked the red carpet at New York's UBS Arena with his fiancé Orlando Bloom before accepting the coveted award.

In an interview before the show, the 39-year-old “Roar” singer revealed that her four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove supported her and watched MTV “for the very first time.”

“Don't say you're up too late, honey. Eat your broccoli,” she said.

“I feel good. I had my daughter and that changed my whole life,” she later added. “I feel complete and more grounded. I write songs from a place of feeling really empowered. I feel really connected to my feminine divinity. It's changed my life for the better.”

The awards show marks Perry's first return to the MTV stage in seven years. On Wednesday, she will perform a medley of her biggest hits.

Perry joins the ranks of icons who have won the Vanguard Award named after Michael Jackson, including Shakira, Madonna, Beyoncé, the Beatles, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson and others.

“Katy is a musical powerhouse and a true pop culture icon,” said Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s president of music, musical talent, programming and events and Paramount+’s chief content officer for music, in a statement.

He added: “With her groundbreaking creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon, conquering the biggest stages in the world. Katy's talent will be on full display LIVE at the VMAs, with a can't-miss, career-spanning performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits.”

Earlier this month, Perry showed support for Bloom, 47, at the premiere of his new film The cut.

After the premiere, the actor told PEOPLE that Perry “just freaked out” when she saw the film.

“She looked at it and thought, 'I need a strong drink,'” he said, adding later that she cried. “She was really moved. She knew what was needed.”

The 2024 MTV VMAs will air live from the UBS Arena in New York on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
