Taylor Swift and Post Malone make each other blush as they accept the award for Best Collaboration for “Fortnight” at the 2024 VMAs

Taylor Swift and Post Malone have had a pretty good couple of weeks. The pair were the first to win a Moon Person during the MTV Video Music Awards telecast on Wednesday night (Sept. 11), taking home the award for best collaboration for the music video for their Billboard Hot 100-topping duet “Fortnight.”

The award was presented by self-proclaimed King Swiftie himself, Flavor Flav, and gymnast Jordan Chiles, who is part of Team USA in 2024. “Swifties in the building!” the Public Enemy rapper shouted into the microphone, holding up a hand heart that made the pop superstar giggle as she took the stage next to the “Psycho” musician.

Swift began her joint acceptance speech by noting the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, which occurred more than two decades ago and on the same day as the ceremony. “When I woke up this morning on September 11 in New York, all I could think about was what happened 23 years ago,” she said. “That's the most important thing about today, and anything that happens tonight has to be put behind that.”

“There's a very clear reason why everyone in the music industry loves working with Post Malone,” the 14-time Grammy winner continued, as her hit collaborator blushed. “It's because you're so incredibly talented. You're the most down-to-earth person.”

Swift went on to joke about Posty's reputation for over-the-top politeness. “It took him forever to stop calling me 'ma'am,'” she said as he smiled before passing the microphone to her collaborator, who said the “Anti-Hero” artist was “one of the kindest, most talented people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.”

“She just puts so much work and care and love into it,” he marveled, noting how “fucking bad” it was to watch Swift simultaneously direct and star in the “Fortnight” video.

The music video for “Fortnight,” released on April 19, was released the same day as Swift’s Billboard 200-Top album The “Tortured Poets” sectionwhich practically served as the first single. The gothic video featured the Eras Tour headliner and Posty playing fickle lovers turned exes, and included a mini Dead Poets Society Reunion with Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles in cameo appearances.

The 2024 VMAs began at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at New York's UBS Arena. Swift is nominated for a total of 12 Moon People this year, more than any other artist.
