Homes briefly evacuated after car hits gas meter in north Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Scottsdale Fire Department officials said a car struck a gas meter early Wednesday afternoon, causing a leak that prompted brief evacuations in the area.

Police and firefighters responded to the area of ​​100th Street and Thompson Peak Parkway shortly after noon where a car had collided with a gas meter. The driver was uninjured, but the accident caused a gas leak, prompting firefighters to request additional units.

Meanwhile, hazardous materials teams from Scottsdale and Phoenix have arrived on site.

According to the Scottsdale Fire Department, apartments west of the leak were evacuated as a precaution until the leak was repaired. Those residents have since been allowed to return home.

The intersection was also closed to north and southbound traffic during the repairs, but was reopened shortly before 2 p.m.
