Tyla wowed in pink strappy sandals by Rene Caovilla at the 2024 VMAs in New York City on Wednesday night.

The “Water” singer, who is nominated for several awards including Best R&B Song and won in the Best Afrobeats Song category for her hit “Water,” debuted a pair of pink strappy sandals by Rene Caovilla that featured a square upper and slim strap design. The silhouette also included a closed back and a slim stiletto heel measuring 4-5 inches.

As for her ensemble, the musician stepped out on the black carpet in a yellow mini dress with stripes throughout. The dress also featured slits on the front and was completed by a long train on the back. A turquoise necklace was her main accessory.

Strappy sandals are a popular choice for celebrities and influencers in 2024. Many brands like Gucci, Stuart Weitzman, and Christian Louboutin feature strappy sandals as part of their shoe range, offering the style in many different forms. Strappy sandals first emerged in the early 1900s and have seen many variations over the years.

Fellow musician Karol G also wore strappy sandals for today's event. The singer hit the red carpet in a pair of PVC strappy sandals with a slightly square pattern on the top, a thick yellow strap at the top, and what appeared to be a thick block heel that measured 3-4 inches in height.

Chanel West Coast brought avant-garde flair to the runway in a silver dress and matching Rene Caovilla sandals that featured three distinctive straps that stretched across the top of the foot, with the longest reaching diagonally back to become a slingback strap. The glitter-covered silhouette was completed by a 10.5cm stiletto heel.

The 2024 VMAs will be held at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York City. The show will be hosted by Megan Thee Stallion and will honor the best music videos, artists and songs released between June 22, 2023, and June 20, 2024. Taylor Swift has the most nominations of the night with a total of twelve, and Katy Perry will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
