Transgender woman shot dead on West Side over the weekend

A vigil was held Wednesday evening to remember a transgender woman who was killed on Chicago's West Side last weekend.

CHICAGO (WLS) — A vigil was held Wednesday evening to remember a transgender woman who was killed on Chicago's West Side last weekend.

The victim, known as “Redd” or “Barbie,” was shot Sunday in the 4500 block of West Monroe Street.

Another person was also shot and seriously injured.

On Wednesday evening, Redd's friends gathered for a balloon launch at the headquarters of the Prevention and Community Services Taskforce, a group she was active in.

No one is currently in custody for the shooting.
