According to a CNN poll, an overwhelming majority of debate viewers thought Vice President Kamala Harris performed better than former President Trump in Tuesday night's debate.

Pollsters were split in their approach to Tuesday night's debate: 50 percent expected Trump to win, 50 percent expected Harris to win. At the end of the night, however, 63 percent thought Harris would win, while 37 percent said Trump would win.

Broken down by candidate, 96 percent of Harris' supporters said they believed she would win, while 69 percent of Trump supporters thought the former president had won.

CNN's poll was conducted via text message and surveyed 605 registered voters who said they watched Tuesday night's debate. The poll has a margin of error of 5.3%.

Trump's allies defended the former president's performance at the debate in Pennsylvania. Many also criticized the ABC News debate moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis.

“President Trump delivered a strong 'America First' message directly to the American people, focusing on curbing inflation, strengthening our economy, securing our borders, and a foreign policy of peace through strength,” House Republican Leader Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., said in a statement at the end of the debate.

“The ABC anchors were not journalists, but pro-Kamala activists who attacked President Trump for no reason, resulting in a 3-on-1 debate while letting Kamala lie repeatedly. President Trump won overwhelmingly and will win again on Election Day,” she added.

Trump's running mate, Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), similarly told Fox News host Sean Hannity: “The moderators didn't do their job, but President Trump did his job.”

Trump himself said it was a “three against one” duel, as the moderators were on Harris' side on a number of issues.

“She wants it because she lost,” Trump replied. “I don't know. I have to think about it. But if you won the debate, I think maybe I shouldn't. Why should I go to another debate? She immediately said we would like a further debate. That's… you know what happens when you're a prizefighter and you lose? You immediately want another fight.”
