Dave Grohl has declared that a viral post allegedly showing a picture of his illegitimate child was fake.

The Foo Fighters frontman, 55, admitted on Wednesday (September 11) that he cheated on his wife Jordyn Blum and fathered a baby girl out of wedlock. In his social media announcement about the child, he promised to be a “loving and supportive father.”

Grohl, who has three daughters with Blum, Violet, Harper and Ophelia, admitted that he is “doing everything” he can to “regain his family's trust and earn their forgiveness following his extramarital affair.”

Shortly after Grohl made his announcement, an Instagram post went viral in which he claimed to be his newborn daughter named Roxie Junie Grohl.

A spokesman for Grohl said: TMZ the post is fake. The Independent has asked Grohl's representative for comment.

The post includes a long caption and a picture of a woman holding the hand of a newborn baby.

“My sweet Roxie Junie Grohl, being your mommy has already been the most incredible experience of my life,” the caption read.

“Every day I fall more in love with you and this new role. Your daddy has been by my side throughout my pregnancy making sure we are both okay and I am so grateful for his love and support.

“I'm new to this whole baby mama thing, but I promise to always do my best for you. As much as I want to share my joy with the world, I also have to protect our privacy right now,” the allegedly fraudulent post continued.

“But I’m glad that everyone knows about you because you are a very special part of my life.”

The creator said they could see Grohl's face “in the tiniest, most beautiful way, like a little reflection of him” when they looked at their child.

“From the shape of your eyes to the way your little nose wrinkles when you smile, you are a Grohl through and through,” they claimed.

The post continued: “It's amazing how much of him already shines through you. Your dad is so proud that you are carrying on the spirit of his family and I can already tell you have that same strength and kindness within you.

“You are a perfect mix of both of us, but seeing these little memories of him in you melts my heart every time. You are our little legacy, we couldn't be prouder. Thank you for your love and support guys! Keep rocking!”

Grohl has not revealed any details about his new baby or the child's mother, other than insisting that the viral Instagram post is fake.

The rock star met his wife Blum, 48, in 2001 at the Sunset Marquis Whiskey Bar. In an interview with ElleGrohl admitted that he stopped calling Blum after a few first dates because he realized he wasn't ready for a serious commitment.

“After three months, I had an epiphany and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, 'Oh, I never thought I'd hear from you again,'” he said.

They finally married on August 2, 2003, in their home in Los Angeles. Together they had three children: Violet Maye, Harper Willow and Ophelia Saint, who were born in 2006, 2009 and 2014.

The former Nirvana drummer has long been a self-professed family man and often says that he hates spending time away from his family on tour. He recalled Time 2009: “I used to be on tour nine months a year. Now I don't like being away from my children for more than 12 days.”

“It changed everything I do,” he said at the time. “When you have children, you see life through different eyes.”
