Sentry Insurance acquires The General from American Family Insurance | News

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) – Sentry Insurance announced that it will acquire The General from American Family Insurance.

Sentry Insurance announced the acquisition in a press release sent Thursday.

Sentry expects the acquisition to close before year-end and will purchase The General from American Family Insurance for approximately $1.1 billion, with a total transaction value of $1.7 billion.

“This acquisition is the largest in our 120-year history, bringing together two of the most powerful brands in the non-standard automotive industry,” said Pete McPartland, chairman and CEO of Sentry in the press release. “Together, Dairyland and The General will be better able to meet the unique needs of even more drivers across the country. It's an exciting step forward for both companies, and I'm proud of the work our team has done to make this possible.”

The press release also stated that approximately 1,300 employees from The General will move to Sentry on January 1, 2025 and will continue to be headquartered in Nashville.
