Former Capitals striker Stephen Peat dies at age 44

It has been a tough few weeks for the hockey community and unfortunately we have to announce another death on Thursday.

Today we have to announce sad news from the world of hockey: The NHL Alumni announced on their X-Account that former Washington Capitals forward Stephen Peat has passed away at the age of 44.

Peat reportedly suffered injuries in an accident nearly two weeks ago, NHL Alumni said, and unfortunately was unable to recover.

“The NHL Alumni Association is deeply saddened to learn that Stephen Peat succumbed to his injuries following a tragic accident just over two weeks ago. He was only 44 years old.”

After this tragic accident, Stephen will help save many lives through organ donation.

“We send our deepest condolences to Stephen’s family, friends and former teammates during this difficult time,” said the NHL alumnus.

Peat was drafted in the second round by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (now Anaheim Ducks) in 1998, but never played for them and was traded to the Washington Capitals just two years later.

The Princeton, British Columbia native played 130 games in the National Hockey League, all for the Capitals, recording ten points (eight goals, two assists), 234 penalty minutes and a minus-16 record.

The thoughts of everyone here at Blade of Steel are with Peat’s family and friends during this difficult time.
