Customers stormed the stores and were even willing to stand in long lines to get their hands on one of the bags – whose simple design and $2.99 ​​price tag belied the obvious hype surrounding such a bag. Of course, the bags sold out almost immediately.

When the tote bags arrive, they usually sell out within a few hours, says Sam West, store manager at the Trader Joe's store at Summit Mall in south Reno.
