Semi-trailer driver killed in accident on I-80 near Seward

SEWARD COUNTY, Nebraska (KOLN) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-80 in Seward County Wednesday morning.

The Seward County Sheriff's Office responded to an accident on I-80 eastbound south of Seward at 6:15 a.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by Suny Rattu, 34, of Lincoln, California, crashed into the rear of another eastbound tractor-trailer.

Rattu was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said. The other driver, a 40-year-old man from Virginia, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Seward Fire Department and Emergency Management Center, Seward Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Department of Transportation responded to the scene.

The Seward County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol are investigating the accident.

While authorities investigated the accident, a section of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 about 20 miles west of Lincoln was closed for hours.
