Annapurna President Nathan Gary resigns (exclusive)

Nathan Gary is stepping down as President of Megan Ellison's Annapurna, a position he has held since 2021. The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Gary will also be leaving the company.

Annapurna's indie gaming co-heads Deborah Mars and Nathan Vella are also leaving the company.

Hector Sanchez recently rejoined Annapurna from Epic Games and was named the company's president of interactive and new media. (Sanchez helped found Annapurna Interactive in 2016.) He will oversee the company's indie gaming efforts as Annapurna also looks to expand into AAA, or big-budget, gaming.

Under Ellison and her leadership, the company will integrate its in-house gaming operations with Annapurna's other business units, which include film, television and theater.

Gary was promoted to President after his time as head of the interactive division and co-founded the company's gaming division. In recent years, Annapurna has made a big step forward in the indie gaming space, releasing award-winning indie games such as What remains of Edith Finch And Strayingthe latter of which sold several million copies in its first month of release and won the 2022 equivalent of an Oscar in the gaming world.

Annapurna, which struggled financially in 2019 and 2020, will soon present Marielle Heller's highly anticipated horror comedy Night slutwith Amy Adams at the Toronto International Film Festival. Annapurna recently premiered Netflix's Nimonathe Oscar-nominated animated film and the animated series Sausage Party: Foodtopia with Amazon. In the theater sector, the company was behind Sarah Paulson’s Tony-winning play Suitable and the upcoming West End production of the play Dear England to Football manager Gareth Southgate.
