Man accused of fatal shooting in Old Town Fort Collins arrested in Michigan

FORT COLLINS, Colorado – A man accused of shooting a man and wounding a woman in Old Town Fort Collins last month was arrested in Michigan on Tuesday.

Fort Collins police said the shooting occurred around 1 a.m. on August 11 after a fight broke out between two groups in the parking lot at 215 Remington Street.

A man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified as Keiter Baez Morales.

A second victim – who was only a woman – was also taken to the hospital where she was treated and later released.

Fort Collins police later released a photo of a man they believed to be involved in the shooting. Investigators identified the man as 35-year-old Tylen Michael Grays and learned he had fled to Michigan.

With the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Office, Grays was arrested in Detroit on Tuesday on several charges, including:

  • First degree murder
  • Attempted first degree murder
  • Four cases of threat
  • First degree assault
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Manipulation of physical evidence
  • Prohibited use of a weapon

“It is important to note that the actions of a single individual have permanently altered the lives of multiple victims, their families and our community. We hope this arrest is some small comfort to the family and friends of Mr. Baez Morales,” FCPS Chief Jeff Swoboda said in a statement. “Grays brought violence to our community and after weeks of painstaking work leading to his arrest, we hope those affected feel this is a step toward justice.”
Fort Collins police said extradition proceedings are underway to bring Grays back to Colorado. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the department's tip line at 970-416-2825.
