MANSFIELD, MASS. (WHDH) – An officer fired a single shot at a man who fled from authorities during a drug investigation at a Red Roof Inn hotel in Mansfield on Thursday, police said.

According to Mansfield Police Chief Ronald Sellon, police soon found the man's car in North Attleboro and took him into custody.

Sellon said authorities also arrested a suspect at the hotel in connection with the incident.

Although two officers were injured at the Red Roof Inn, Sellon said he did not know any further details about the cause of their injuries. Sellon said both officers were treated at the scene.

At a news conference, Sellon said North Attleboro police were investigating the man, who later fled the scene for suspected drug activity. Sellon said the man drove away in a black BMW, at which point a North Attleboro officer opened fire.

Sellon said Mansfield police were called to the Red Roof Inn around 3:45 p.m. after gunshots were fired and the man left the scene. In a post on Facebook, police asked community members to avoid the area while their investigation continues.

In an update, Sellon said the crime scene was secured and there was no further danger to the public.

Sellon said the incident remains under investigation.
