Nashville music scene mourns popular DJ

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Many people in Nashville are mourning the loss of a beloved DJ and former Tennessee State University football player. Deandre Haynes died earlier this month.

Haynes was best known by his stage name DJ Svnny D and hosted numerous concerts throughout the region.

During this time, Haynes made contact with several well-known artists such as Bun B, DMX and Ice Cube.

“He was a man with an overwhelming personality and I just couldn't love that child anymore,” said Haynes' father, John Edwards.

Before making a name for himself in the music industry, he played football and suffered two serious leg injuries during his career.

Earlier this month, the 31-year-old was found dead by a roommate, according to his family. They believe he died of natural causes and has left a huge void for them to fill.

“The family is devastated. We were simply not prepared for this,” Edwards said. “We know that God does not make mistakes, even though we are suffering right now.”

Earlier this week, dozens of friends, family and fans filled TSU Stadium to pay their final respects to Haynes.

Many mentioned his charismatic personality and the love he showed towards others.

While the death of the California native deeply pains the city, many are committed to ensuring that his legacy is never forgotten.

“Deandre showed us that if you want something, you have to go for it. No matter what dream you have, you have to pursue it,” Edwards said. “You never know what you can achieve if you never try.”

An autopsy has reportedly been ordered to determine the official cause of death.

In the meantime, relatives have set up a GoFundMe campaign to help with expenses.
