“One of the biggest factors”

Six months after the death of her son Robert Garrison Brown, Sisterwives star Janelle Brown spoke about his struggle with drug addiction, which ultimately led to his suicide.

“I think drug abuse was probably one of the biggest factors for him,” said Janelle, 55, People in an interview published on Wednesday, September 11. “I don’t know what we could have done differently[ly].”

The mother of six went on to say that she and the extended family had many conversations with Garrison before his death and offered him “resources” to help him with his addiction.

“We always talked to him, we loved him. All of those things were there. It was really just something he couldn't do… like the demon he couldn't defeat in battle. He couldn't seem to get over it. And it wasn't just a lack of love or a lack of anything,” Janelle added.

Garrison – who Janelle shared with her ex-husband Kody Brown – was found dead in his home in Flagstaff, Arizona, on March 5. He had shot himself. His younger brother Gabriel Brown after Janelle's text messages went unanswered the night before.

The reality star, who also has daughters Madison and Savanah and sons Hunter and Logan with her ex, sometimes still thinks they “could have done more, but I don't know.”

“I think this is a grief trap because I think ultimately everyone is responsible for their own actions and decisions. We did everything,” she said People“We really did everything we could. And unfortunately, sometimes that still isn’t enough.”

At the time of his death, Janelle and Kody, 55, released a joint statement on their respective social media profiles.

“Kody and I are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our wonderful boy, Robert Garrison Brown,” they said at the time. “He was a bright spot in the lives of everyone who knew him. His loss will leave such a huge void in our lives that it takes our breath away. We ask that you please respect our privacy and join us in honoring his memory.”

Days before the premiere of Sisterwives In season 19, Janelle remembered her late son on the sixth anniversary of his death with a sweet memory she shared on Instagram on September 5.

“You pop up in my photo memories almost every day. Sometimes it doesn't even seem like you're gone,” she wrote next to a photo of herself hugging Garrison. “And then I remember I haven't gotten a call or text from you and it all comes flooding back.”

She continued, “I know you fought hard, but in the end you just couldn't stay. I love you so much and will see you again when my journey is over.”

Garrison was 25 years old at the time of his death.
