Watertown man identified after fatal motorcycle crash on Interstate 29 | Local news

{KXLG – Watertown, SD} A 57-year-old Watertown man was identified today in a fatal motorcycle crash on Interstate 29 near Brookings on Sunday, September 8.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 5:35 p.m. near mile marker 119, about 13 miles south of Brookings.

James E. Formanek of Watertown was operating a 2000 Honda VT1100CT motorcycle when it collided with a 2012 Toyota RAV4 of Brookings driven by Nathan H. O'Brien.

The impact caused the motorcycle to veer off the road and overturn, throwing Formanek out. He was pronounced dead at the scene – O'Brien, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The exact cause of the crash is still being investigated.

The Highway Patrol urges motorists to be cautious and watch for other vehicles, especially motorcycles.
