Kirk Herbstreit's update on Odell Beckham Jr. promises disaster for the Dolphins

For some time now, it seems as if there has only been negative news about Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. General manager Chris Grier brought him to South Florida as the No. 3 WR for star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but due to an injury, Beckham was unable to complete even a full practice with his new team.

There were tons of headlines before the season started when the Dolphins placed the former first-round pick on the PUP list. Because of this, he will miss the first four games and then hopefully be ready to play in Week 5. However, ahead of Thursday Night Football, insider Kirk Herbstreit said it's not known exactly when OBJ will take the field, with the door potentially open for Week 7. Really?

The Dolphins have an away game against the New England Patriots in Week 5. The hope is that Beckham will be 100 percent by then and will make his first catch for Miami. However, could the Dolphins take him out of the uniform for an additional game?

Keep in mind that Miami has a bye in Week 6. If Mike McDaniel and Co. decide not to bring Beckham back, they could give him that extra week off and then bring him back for the Week 7 road game against the Indianapolis Colts.

That's not ideal, but the Dolphins have played it safe with him so far, so maybe they'll decide to continue that trend. It's also a bit concerning that Herbstreit added “who knows” when discussing Beckham's availability midseason. In the showdown with the Bills, fans have voiced their displeasure with the WR options behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, as Grant DuBose and Robbie Chosen aren't doing Tagovailoa any favors with their play.

This team is banged up at the wideout position, and the return of the experienced River Cracraft is also completely uncertain. Waddle and Hill are obviously two superstars and will hold the fort until Miami is healthy again. Still, it would be nice to see a positive update on Beckham sooner rather than later. We haven't heard anything remotely like that lately.
