Brawl leads to arrest for domestic violence

Bowling Green police were dispatched to the 800 block of Sixth Street on Wednesday for a report of a woman crying in the street. When officers arrived around 10:19 p.m., they spoke with the man and woman involved in the incident.

The woman was visiting her boyfriend, Jose Zamudio, 27, of Winder, Georgia. She told police that Zamudio had been drinking. Officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the report.

The woman said Zamudio became aggressive toward her when she tried to call her family. After a back-and-forth attempt to get her phone back, Zamudio then strangled her with his bare hands, the report said.

The woman told officers she couldn't breathe but didn't lose consciousness. She said she scratched Zamudio to get him off her, the report said.

The woman stated that her throat was not currently sore and she was not having difficulty swallowing. She had a scratch on her left bicep, a small bruise on the knuckle of her right index finger and a red mark on the front of her left thigh. Zamudio had scratches on both sides of his neck and denied requiring emergency medical services at the scene, according to the report.

A witness said he saw the woman and Zamudio “fighting” outside for 10 minutes. The witness said he saw Zamudio try to push the woman and thought she was going to be knocked down, according to the report.

Zamudio was arrested and taken to jail for domestic violence and strangulation.
