Von Miller seems to be back at the top

Von Miller didn't record a sack last season after suffering a torn ACL on Thanksgiving 2022, but two games into his third season with the Buffalo Bills and his 14th in the NFL, he appears to have returned to his old form.

A sack in the third quarter of Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson during a Football on Thursday evening The game gave Von Miller his second sack in five days, increasing his career total to 125.5 and moving him further up the NFL's all-time sack list.

Miller is now primarily a pass-rush specialist. After starting 11 games in 2022 – his first season with the Bills – he was not in the starting lineup at all last year when he returned to the lineup after tearing his ACL. He also did not record a single sack in 12 regular-season games and two postseason games last season and finished with just 3 quarterback hits in what was by far his worst NFL season. That included a game against the Denver Broncos in which he played no role.

But it often takes a year for a player to get back to form after an ACL injury. And the structure of the contract Von Miller signed with Buffalo in 2022 bought him time; the team couldn't release him without further worsening its difficult salary cap situation.

So Miller had time to work his way back to the front.

During the fourth quarter on Thursday, the Amazon Prime broadcast revealed that Miller was pressured 4 times on Thursday night and averaged a time to quarterback of 2.10 seconds – his best mark since 2021, his final season with the Broncos before a midseason trade to the Los Angeles Rams.

Based on the numbers and the eyeballs, Von Miller seems to be back to his old self. And that could give the Bills a chance to achieve the goal that eluded them during the Josh Allen era: a return to the Super Bowl.
