Teen driver arrested after fatal crash on SR 82 that killed 17-year-old passenger

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – On Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol Homicide Unit arrested the 17-year-old involved in last week’s fatal traffic crash on Lehigh Acres State Road 82.

The 17-year-old is accused of the following:

  • Killing in road traffic
  • Reckless driving – serious injury x 1
  • Reckless driving – personal injury x 1Reckless driving – property damage x 2
  • DWLS Conscious 1st attack

Last Friday night, a 17-year-old passenger from Lehigh Acres was thrown from his car and died after a four-vehicle crash.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the teenager was a passenger in the car of the now-arrested 17-year-old driver. The car was approaching Harcourt Avenue at a high rate of speed.

At the same time, a second vehicle was driving at high speed towards Harcourt.

The 17-year-old driver from Fort Denaud, Florida, drove into the back of an SUV near Harcourt. The SUV was driven by an 18-year-old who collided with another vehicle as a result of the impact.

According to FHP, after the crash, the 17-year-old driver veered right onto the north side of a curb, collided with a street sign, and the 17-year-old passenger from Lehigh Acres was subsequently thrown into the nearby line of trees.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
